According to information obtained from Cycling Weekly, Trek Bicycle has today unveiled the completely new Checkout, a full-suspension gravel bike with drop bars, specifically designed for “epic off-the-beaten-path adventures.”
The Checkout promises a cycling experience that positions it between a mountain bike and a rigid gravel bike, being faster than an MTB on paved roads and more capable than a traditional gravel bike on trails. It is the ideal ride for road-to-gravel and singletrack transitions, ultra-endurance events, and extended bikepacking trips.
This innovative model incorporates 55mm of rear travel and a new 60mm Rudy XL suspension fork, designed in collaboration with RockShox. Weighing 11.28 kg in its top-of-the-range version, the Checkout offers remarkable balance for a full-suspension gravel bike.
Trek has provided data highlighting the benefits of suspension on this type of bike, demonstrating a reduction in fatigue and a significant increase in comfort and control. These include a 7.3% reduction in rider ventilation, a 41.5% decrease in fatiguing vibrational energy, and 23% less steering variation.
The Checkout frame is designed to accommodate tires up to 56mm (2.2 inches) and features a more off-road-oriented geometry than standard gravel bikes, with increased reach and stack, ideal for multi-day adventure terrain. A unique, gravel-specific detail is the inclusion of an integrated rear rack, mounted on bushings so that it moves with the suspension, and compatible with a dropper post.
